Since its establishment in 2003, Anglican Women’s Empowerment has been working for
gender justice as well as the empowerment of women and girls, in the church and the world. Seeking to be faithful to the Gospel, AWE gathers and connects women from the Episcopal Church and throughout the Anglican Communion to share resources and opportunities, the focus of which is to serve the vulnerable in our society.
Our mission of gender and social justice is accomplished by using the following training
- the annual gathering around the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York City,
- the publication of educational for distribution to parishes and other interested parties,
- connecting women through events developed to engage and educate about important issues, and
- participating in advocacy campaigns such as the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence.
We follow the issues that are part of the Beijing Platform for Action, a set of 12 critical areas of concern adopted by the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995 to advance the goals of women’s equality and human rights for all women.
